Have we mentioned how much we love anti-imperialism on Red Library? No? Well, we really love anti-imperialism.
On this week's episode, Red Library welcomes Comrade Jordan on for a discussion of Gabriel Kolko's fantastic history of the Vietnam War, Anatomy of a War: Vietnam, the United States, and the Modern Historical Experience. This is the first of a two-part episode because there was just ENTIRELY TOO MUCH to talk about.
For part 1, we talk about the cultural memory of the Vietnam War in the U.S. today, discuss some general points of the conflict and political and economic conditions in Vietnam prior to 1960, and lay out some of the basic history from the initial French colonization of Vietnam to the full-blown involvement of U.S. troops in the area.
